X-Unsent

XUnsent adds the "X-Unsent: 1" line to an e-mail (.EML or .NWS) type file.

X-Unsent 1.0

Many of us resend e-mail and posts. To do this we have to add the "X-Unsent:1" line to the .EML or NWS file. I wrote this little VBS program to do just that.

X-Unsent is a Visual Basic Script program, so there is no usual install process. This one is a "drag and drop" program, meaning you drag and drop the file you want to change onto a shortcut to the X-Unsent program. If you'd like to look at the code, just send it to any text editor. You will recognize at lot of the scripting. The good thing about running VBScript locally (using the Windows Scripting Host) is that you can read and write files to your hard drive.

Unzip the attached file. Save the VBS file anywhere. See the instructions below for use. A help file is also attached.

To use:

1. Save this VBS script anywhere.

2. Make a shortcut to it on your Desktop.

3. Drag and drop any .EML or .NWS file to the shortcut.

4. X-Unsent: 1 will be added to file and the file updated.

You must have the Windows Scripting Host installed to run this script.

Re-enable "X-Unsent=1" in your computer registry!

Note: After installing the service packs for XP, Outlook Express will no longer honor the X-Unsent line when it is inserted into a used email and you will no longer be able to use it as a new email or post. There is a fix for this however, someone wrote a registry file that will update the Windows registry to now honor the X-Unsent line in Outlook Express stationery once again. All you have to do is do download the honor x-unsent registry merge file and merge it to your registry and now x-unsent will work, once again. Thanks to whomever wrote this wonderful reg file, I will give credit if someone that knows for sure who wrote it will please speak up.
