inetcomm.dll Fix
This bug in OE's latest patch prevents embedding duplicate images. Only the
first image is embedded and other instances of the same images won't be embedded.
Open your Outlook Express and from help menu select "About Microsoft
Outlook Express". If the version of inettcom.dll is greater than 6.00.2800.1106,
you have to overwrite your dll with the one included with the zip file. Follow
the instruction bellow.
inetcomm.dll Problem and Fix
You will need a copy of inetcomm.dll version 6.00.2800.1106. The file and
a ReadMe.txt file is available on this site. First and foremost there are
different ways to overwrite the versions that won't allow for duplicate file
embeddings for different Operating Systems and sometimes for different brands
of computers. So I will try to go through the different OS (Operating systems).
1. For Win98 and Windows ME First shut down Outlook Express. This dll either
gets unzipped or copy and pasted in Windows/systems folder. You click yes
when prompted to overwrite the one in there. This dll must be overwritten,
not deleted or renamed. For some of you may get an error saying the dll is
in use. If so, you will have to do it in safe mode.
2. For XP First shut down Outlook Express. This dll either has to be unzipped
or copy and pasted into the Windows/system32 folder, click "Yes"
to overwrite the existing dll. This dll must be overwritten and not deleted
or renamed. For some of you you may get an error saying the dll is in use.
If so, you will have to do it in safe mode. If this doesn't work some of you
will also have to overwrite the dll in dllcache. This is a Hidden/System folder.
To make the folder visible in Explorer, you have to go to /Start/Settings/Control
Panel/Folder Options/View Tab/ and put the Check Mark in "Show all hidden
Folders and Files" and remove the check from "Hide protected operating
system files". Now the dll cache will be a sub folder of Windows/system32
folder. Overwrite the dll first in dllcache and then again in /system32. Undo
the checks in /Start/Settings/Control Panel/Folder Options/View Tab/ to restore
your hidden files and folders.
3. Windows 2000. This is the hardest OS to overwrite this dll in. All has
to be done in safe mode. You need to make your dll cache folder visible. /Start/Settings/Control
Panel/Folder Options/View Tab/ and put the Check Mark in "Show all hidden
Folders and Files" and remove the check from "Hide protected operating
system files". If you don't do the cache folder first Win 2000 will replace
the dll the minute you overwrite the one in Windows/system32 folder. Click
yes each time it ask do you want to overwrite this dll. Undo the checks in
/Start/Settings/Control Panel/Folder Options/View Tab/ to restore your hidden
files and folders.
Check to see if this has worked on your machine Open Outlook Express, got
to /Help/About/ and scroll down and see if the inetcomm.dll is now V 6.00.2800.1106
if yes then you are all set. If not do it again and watch everystep untill
that dll's version is change to 1106.
